I love to collect quotes. Whenever I hear or read something that resonates with me, I jot it down so I can go back to it later and reflect on it more deeply. I used to have a little notebook that was earmarked specifically for quotes, but now I simply record them in my phone’s Notes app. Occasionally I take the time to reread them all, pondering and savoring the astute wisdom penned so powerfully into a few concise words. There are some quotes, though, I don’t really remember reading and recording (oh the memory of a 59 year old!). But then there are others that are so profound I doubt I’ll ever forget them. Quite often those are the ones that find themselves on a post-it note stuck to my mirror!
I decided some quotes are simply too good to hoard, so from time to time I’ll share one on my blog. Today I want to share a quote I heard on a recent podcast called, “The Next Right Thing,” by Emily P. Freeman. She attributes the quote to James Bryan Smith, the author of several books including the Good and Beautiful God series (The Good and Beautiful God, The Good and Beautiful Life, The Good and Beautiful Community, all of which I highly recommend).
This quote speaks powerfully to our identity in Christ, and also reminds us that God’s Kingdom is indestructible. His children are safe and secure in Him.
Enjoy. Savor. Write this one on an index card and commit it to memory.
“I am one in whom Christ dwells and delights, and I live in the strong and unshakable Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is not in trouble and neither am I.“
- “…Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col. 1:27)
- “The Lord your God is with you … he takes great delight in you.” (Zeph. 3:17)
- “…The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever.” (Dan. 2:44)
- “…We are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken….” (Heb. 12:28)
